Who is the OrcaTorch D920 for?

  • Technical divers needing a powerful cordless primary light with strong output, a tight beam angle for signalling, and long runtime for extended dives. Also works seamlessly as a backup to a canister light.
  • Wreck and cave divers who need a tight, long‑throw beam for penetration, with the ability to reduce output in dark environments. Suitable as both a primary and a backup light.
  • Underwater photographers and videographers who still need a reliable primary light to navigate to the site. A small action camera mounted on the Goodman handle can capture surprisingly clean “behind‑the‑scenes” footage with minimal backscatter.
  • Recreational divers wanting a bright, reliable primary torch for night dives, low‑visibility conditions, and general use.
  • Traveling divers who want canister‑level performance in a compact, cable‑free package that’s easy to pack and maintain.

The D920 is ideal for anyone who wants the output and performance of a canister light with the simplicity of a cordless handheld. It delivers high brightness, long burn time, and a clean, snag‑free setup suitable for almost every dive environment.

How the D920 fits in the OrcaTorch range

The OrcaTorch D920 is the flagship cordless primary light, more powerful than any previous hand held light & finally an option to replace the canister lights. The powerful output & long runtime make this light perfect for multiple applications

Model Type Output & Runtime Ideal For Notes
D530 Compact handheld Moderate output Entry‑level divers Affordable, simple, reliable
D710 Compact primary High output, good runtime General diving Most popular all‑rounder
D511 Large handheld Brighter than D710, longer runtime Divers needing more punch Step up from compact torches
D620 Canister light High output, long burn time Tech & wreck diving Entry‑level canister system
D630 Canister light Very high output, long runtime Cave & technical diving Proven, supports backmount & sidemount
D920 Cordless primary 5000 lumens, long runtime Technical, wreck, cave, recreational diving Brighter than all handhelds; canister‑level performance

The D920 cordless primary light is actually brighter than all of the model above and sits next to the D630 as OrcaTorch flagship products.
Many divers are adopting the new cordless option of the D920, reducing the complications of yet more complexity of cable routing etc.

The D920 is one of the first lights on the market that bring both the intensity of a 5,000 lumen primary light as well as longevity
(other competitors on the market struggle with light output & longevity when compared to the D920).

An excellent choice for divers who want serious performance without the extra complexity of a separate battery canister.

The D920 is brighter than every handheld model in the OrcaTorch lineup and Many divers are now choosing the D920 because it delivers:

  • Canister‑light performance
  • Cordless simplicity
  • 5000 lumen intensity
  • Long burn time
  • No cable routing or external battery pack

It’s one of the first cordless lights on the market that genuinely competes with traditional canister systems in both output and longevity,
making it an excellent choice for divers who want serious performance without extra gear complexity.

Why choose the D920 over the D710, D511, or D630?

  • Compared to the D710: The D920 gives you a tighter beam, more punch, and a noticeably longer runtime. The D710 is a great compact primary, but the D920 steps into true “primary light” territory for serious night, wreck, and technical dives.
  • Compared to the D511: The D511 is bright, but it’s still a handheld design with a wider beam and less control in signalling. The D920 delivers a narrower, more focused beam with better penetration and a cleaner, more streamlined feel underwater.
  • Compared to the D630: The D630 is a full canister system with huge runtime, but it comes with cable routing, and extra gear to manage. The D920 gives you canister‑level output in a cordless format that’s easier to travel with, easier to pack, and easier to dive.

If you want the performance of a canister light without the cables, bulk, or maintenance, the OrcaTorch D920 Cordless Primary Light is the most balanced option in the OrcaTorch range. It delivers high output, long burn time, and a clean, snag‑free setup that works for recreational, wreck, cave, and technical diving.

FAQ

  • How long does the D920 run on a full charge? The D920 delivers long, consistent runtime suitable for night, wreck, and technical dives. Actual burn at full power is 1.5hrs, I have dove this light on double dives at least 45 minutes each with no sign of the light struggling to maintain output, it would seem to have capacity to run longer, if you are worried, you can drop it back to high  if you need to do more dives without recharging (ie live-aboard).
  • Is the beam narrow enough for signalling? Yes. The D920 uses a tight, focused beam that cuts through silt and low‑visibility conditions, making it ideal for communication, wreck penetration, and general primary‑light use.
  • Is the D920 suitable for travel? Yes, generally speaking. Similar conditions apply as to canister lights. While most airlines consider devices under 100Wh to be safe (the D920 is 74Wh) due to the changing nature you should check with your airline’s policy first. The D920 offers canister‑level performance in a cordless, compact body that packs easily and avoids cable routing or bulky external batteries.
